  49. A Kamtronics TNC-2 costs about $125.  It doesn't have a complete
  50. implementation, but it can get some WEFAX.  I'm not sure what kind of
  51. software you need.

  102. Although this is not a real answer, the quickest thing I can tell you
  103. is that it's not like the public switched telco network.  Voice mail you
  104. say.  I've not seen that on radio.  I suggest you contact your local 
  105. packet users group to find out exactly what it's about.  Not that I don't
  106. want to tell you, I guess if you mail me I could send you some private
  107. E-Mail HIHI.

  130. Firstly, if you have not already done so, stop by one of the local 
  131. amatuer radio clubs.  They will help you out.  They can point you at
  132. the approprate info, especially if you ave not yet obtained a license.
  133. If not, write the FCC.  They will send you all the regulations.  From that,
  134. it will be clear what is possible, and why.

  136. You should be aware that you will require the U.S. equivalent of an
  137. Advanced Amatuer License to have an automated transmitter.  To operate
  138. any transmitter, of course, you need a license.

  170.     I've obtained a Mocom 35 440 rig which we wish to use as a 9600 
  171. user port radio.  I'm interested if anyone has has sucess with mods on this.
  172. It came with documentation on how to perform a mod for 9600, but local users
  173. who have tried to perform the mod on their Mocom 35s say they have had
  174. little luck.  Any info would be appreciated.

  198. Absolutely correct - it is a fabulous BBS system and Bob Arasmith
  199. deserves high honor for it.  If I recall, the system actually runs
  200. on THREE Sun machines.  It is totally awesome.  Since moving from
  201. a QTH close to the N0ARY BBS, I have not been able to ween myself -
  202. so, I maintain it as my home bbs and remotely access it via  Internet.
  203. Oh yeah, he has an Internet Gateway on the thing as well.

  235. dishes out the first 40 characters of its 
  236. sign on message - I'm pretty sure most of it is OK
  237. and the RS232 all seems OK.

  242. Looking at the Z80 processor address and datalines
  243. It looks very like the unit is stuck ing a small
  244. look - presumably checking the status of an internal
  245. flag or something  - once the initial 40 or so chars 
  246. are spewed onto the screen then the processor goes into a 
  247.  
  248. Read,Read,Read, Write loop - I think this is consistant
  249. with it checking a register comparing it - failing and
  250. looping. but woulf appreciate sympathy and constructive
  251. points of view...

  296. It may not be the audio from the TNC -- the 5100's data connection
  297. port has been changed recently.  I own two 5100's -- one is a year old
  298. and one is a month old.  The "old" 5100 works perfectly well with the
  299. TNC wired into the data port on the back of the radio.  The "new" 5100
  300. keys up the transmitter but doesn't provide any audio output when it
  301. transmits.

  303. I called Yaesu about this and it seems that they've changed the data
  304. port on the back of the radio to allow direct 9600 baud connection.
  305. In doing this, they made it impossible to run 1200 and 2400 baud
  306. packet through the data port.  Wiring directly to the mike connector
  307. does still work, so that's the "correct" way to do it now.  The
  308. manuals haven't been updated to reflect the new hardware yet.

  310. Bummer.  Now I've got two "identical" radios and two distinctly
  311. different ways to plug in a TNC.
